Here are the essential supplies you’ll need to complete just about any adult coloring page craft.

We’re no strangers when it comes to DIY projects and the tools it takes to make them. When it comes to crafting with coloring pages, the possibilities are endless. But for most crafts, the list of required materials is pretty simple! To help you build your arsenal of go-to crafting supplies, we put together a list of ten tools every colorist-slash-crafter should have on deck. Make your way through this list and you’ll have everything you need the next time a burst of DIY creativity strikes!
A good paper trimmer has become a staple around here when crafting with our adult coloring pages. These contraptions make both measuring and trimming paper super easy. Plus, they are great for cutting papers of virtually any weight—from standard 20-pound copy paper pages to heavier watercolor paper or cardstock.
X-Acto Knife and Self-Healing Cutting Mat
For precise and intricate cuts, an X-Acto knife will come in super handy—especially when cutting out shapes that don’t have straight lines. We also recommend using a self-healing cutting mat whenever working with an X-Acto knife to help make the cutting process smoother (and you avoid ruining your crafting station).
Metal Straight Edge Ruler
This might be a no-brainer, but a ruler is without a doubt a quintessential crafting tool. In addition to helping with measurements, a sturdy metal ruler is super helpful for accurate cutting (especially if you don’t have a paper trimmer!). We recommend using a metal straight edge ruler with a cork base to also provide extra grip while measuring and cutting.
When it comes to decoupage, we’re big fans of the brand Mod Podge. We frequently use their products for gluing, sealing, and finishing off many crafts. For a simple matte finish to your coloring craft, we recommend starting with this easy-to-use Mod Podge, like we used on our coloring page monogram craft. The cool thing about Mod Podge is that it comes in 23 different formulas, so you’ll definitely find something to suit your needs! Aside from the original formula, our go-to’s are the dishwasher safe formula and the hard coat formula.
If you plan on using any decoupage glue or acrylic paint on your project, you’ll need some foam brushes—they make both application and cleanup a breeze! They’re also pretty inexpensive and can be found in virtually any craft or art supply store.
Permanent Adhesive Roller and/or Double-Sided Tape
For paper-oriented coloring crafts, like our coloring page envelopes, we recommend a permanent adhesive runner for easy, no-mess assembly. Double-sided tape is also a great alternative, though it can be harder to apply to your surface.
Quick-Drying Tacky Glue or Hot Glue
Glue can be helpful for crafts that need something a little stronger and more permanent than tape—like in our DIY coloring page magnets tutorial. When it comes to crafting, quick-drying tacky glue is ideal—because who has time to wait patiently for glue to dry?! Hot glue can also work well in these contexts.
For all things paper cutting, you’ll need a handy pair of soft-grip scissors. One thing we’d like to point out is that it’s important to have a pair dedicated to paper cutting only. Using the same pair of scissors for different materials can dull the blades over time. So buy a pair, write “PAPER” on them in permanent marker, and give anyone who tries to trim ribbon or flower stems with them the evil eye—you’ll thank us later!
Completed Coloring Pages
What would coloring crafts be without some completed coloring pages?! We recommend scanning the ones you love so you always have a bank of completed designs to print anytime. (And don’t forget to check our “New this Month” section regularly for new designs to craft with!)
Whether it’s bright acrylic paint, decorative washi tape, or sparkly ribbons, always keep some fun embellishments on hand to add some flair to your projects. Practically anything and everything can be used for decorating, so don’t limit yourself!
With these ten essential tools in your arsenal, you’re more than ready to craft. So let your imagination run wild and use these ten simple tools to help create your next beautiful artwork.
