Adorn your Christmas tree with these fun and festive DIY ornaments.
Holiday decorating can be tough. Everyone wants their home to feel unique and festive, but after a while, all those store-bought decorations and tree ornaments start to look really unoriginal. Well, we have a solution: This super simple DIY is a great way to totally customize your Christmas tree (or Hanukkah bush!). Plus, it’s so failproof and mess-free that even kids or not-so-crafty partners can help! All you need is a few simple materials:
What you’ll need:
- Clear ornaments (We used these 3-inch clear plastic ornaments from Michaels)
- Color copies of completed coloring pages (You’ll need about 4-5 pages per ornament)
- Scissors, X-Acto knife , or paper trimmer
- Twine/thread (for hanging)
- Festive/holiday-themed ribbon (optional)
What to do:
1. Start with color copies of your favorite holiday-themed coloring pages. You’ll need to cut the pages into ¼-1/2-inch strips. A paper cutter makes quick work of this part, but scissors or an X-Acto knife will work just as well if you don’t have access to one.

2. First, remove the tops from your ornaments and set the tops aside (this will make the next two steps easier!) One at a time, roll your paper strips around a pen or pencil. Make sure the pen is smaller than the hole in the top of the ornament!
3. Once rolled, remove your paper strip from the pen or pencil and insert it into the top of the ornament, using your finger to push it into the bulbous part of the ornament.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the ornament is full and beautiful!
5. Once the blub is full enough, replace the top of the ornament and add a piece of string or twine for hanging.
6. If you want to get a little fancy, add a piece of festive ribbon as an extra little bit of decoration.
Tada! Now you have homemade ornaments perfect for adorning your own tree (or to use as hostess gifts, teacher gifts, that-cousin-you-forgot-was-coming-to-dinner-until-she-walked-in-the-door gifts... you get the picture!).
